Hummingbirds

We've had tons of hummingbirds on our feeder lately.

Can't tell if they're all females, or just young.  The males should have ruby throats, and these don't.

No wonder

Now I know why I have been putting grape jelly in the feeder twice a day.

Indigo Bunting

We've had so many colorful birds at our feeders.

Today we had an indigo bunting.
My favorite color of blue.

More than he bargained for

More snow today.

I think this Baltimore Oriole may feel he came back a bit prematurely.

Birds

Grackles came in on the south wind on Sunday afternoon.  We could hear them inside the closed up house.
Noisy birds!

They flew from tree to tree, spending a few minutes in each group of trees, screeching the whole time.

For the birds

Rather than save my yarn nubbins for carding into spinning fiber, I picked up an inexpensive suet feeder and loaded 'em up.  It's a bit early perhaps, seeing as the ground is still snow-covered, but the birds will be aware of it when they are ready.

While I was at it, I added another suet feeder to a new location in the back yard.

By the time I'd hung the yarn, I turned to see a nuthatch had already found the new feeder.

Sleety day

In less than three hours of falling sleet, we had two cars in the ditch in front of our house.
Paul headed out and spread sand on the corner.

Birds coped better than humans today.
