On a mitten binge

I'm feeling a mitten binge coming on.

Why does the sage that lived on my deck this past summer still look alive?
2° January weather and all?

Happy New Year

Last year
  • Completion of three long term Dale of Norway sweater projects

This year

  • Fear less, hope more; Eat less, chew more;  Whine less, breathe more;  Talk less, say more;  Love more, and all good things will be yours.

I had all kinds of fancy ideas for resolutions, but yeah, that pretty much covers it.

A full basket

I've a full knitting basket lately.

Three Dale of Norway sweaters in rotation.

Begun March 9, 2011.

Sapporo 2007
for Bekky
She chose the colors for a lovely grey/green colorway.

A pullover from Dale Book #138
for Ben

Gjende pullover
for Paul

I knit along on each sweater in rotation.  When I come to the end of a ball of yarn, I join on the new ball and move on to the next sweater.  This way I never get tired of any individual sweater.  I stay eager to move on to the next.

And in between, I still get a few small projects completed.
My most recent carry around project:  springy fingerless mittens for the daughters of a friend.  Just need weaving in ends, then they are ready for the Easter Bunny basket.

Snowy Weekend

Friday night we had 11 inches of light powdery snow.

Saturday dawned bright and sunny.

It made a great day to go skiing at Welch Village!

(No pictures there, I'm afraid I didn't carry the camera.)

Sunday we lazed about the house.

After a big brunch, we roused ourselves enough to go out for the first snowshoeing of the season.

The dogs went crazy in the deep snow.

Paul had his first chance to use the Dale of Norway mittens I knitted him at the end of last winter.

They're the perfect weight and breathability for snowshoeing.

Last minute secret

SSSSHHHHHH!

I've still got a few last minute secret gift projects. Here's one, almost finished. I picked up one more skein today, for the 10 yards of yarn I needed to FINISH!

Then I have only one last project, cast on last night.

We had our holiday celebration with Paul's family on Sunday. It was a lovely time. Everyone is growing so much...

When we returned for the evening, we put up our own tree.

Every year, it seems we put up fewer holiday decorations.

We've been going on a ski trip over the holiday the past few years, and much of our energy goes into the trip.

We do still enjoy having a tree.

We waited til Ben was home from college to put it up.

Luckily, it's artificial, so we don't have to worry about it while we are gone!

A quick look at Paul in the Dale Salt Lake City sweater I made for him in 2003. He wears it quite a bit. (We keep the house pretty cool in the winter - 63 day, 55 night - since propane has become SO expensive. It gives us an excuse to wear all those sweaters!)
