Malanaphy Springs

This past weekend, Paul and I headed down to Decorah Iowa to visit Ben and Bekky. We all headed to Malanaphy Springs State Preserve, just outside of town.

We hiked through the woods along the Iowa River and came upon the rocky cliffs where the spring is hidden.

We climbed up to near the top.

Paul had a look at the spring cave.

Little Bekky checked out the inside of the spring cave.

Malanaphy spring starts with a rivulet down the stone face,

it picks up steam and makes a larger falls as it enters the Iowa river.

It was a great day of hiking and exploring, made even better by the company of the kids.

I've done a bit of mindless, relaxing spinning. Two 4 ounces skeins of BFL from Chameleon Colorworks. They'll go into the basket of unplanned yarns, to be a project someday.

Your hikes are always so inspiring. I'm going to log off, grab the dog's leash and head out with my camera.

Love the yummy looking yarn. Do you think I could do something like that with a drop spindle? (with practice, of course) or is that only done on a spinning wheel?

Looks like a fun hike on a perfect day.

How do you have time to spin with all that hiking?

looks like fun was had by all. I love Bekky's new haircut! I'm debating if I want to wait 2 weeks to have Tiff cut my hair in SF or just do it myself again........

How about some Colorado tips for your favorite brother? I'll be leaving on the bike one week from Saturday and plan on being in the Denver area Saturday night. Your mother mentioned some gold mining town that we were probably at together many years ago. I'll be looking for some fairly easy jeep type roads to ride. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I know I want to see the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, other than that, I have no certain destination.
